The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama's campaign spokesperson and special assistant, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has expressed grave worries over the state of the roads going to Ghana's Western Region, which is the primary cocoa-producing region of the nation.
She highlighted the detrimental effects of the roads' extreme state of disrepair on farmers and the cocoa trade in a post on X on Wednesday, November 13. Madam Bawah emphasized the challenges that the area's farmers confront as a result of the infrastructure's neglect.
She cautioned that in addition to impeding the transportation of cocoa, one of Ghana's most important exports, the bad condition of the roads is also having an impact on the general standard of living for those who depend on the sector.
Her remarks coincide with growing demands for improved infrastructural assistance in important agricultural regions. Madam Bawah promised in her article that the NDC is dedicated to resolving the matter under John Dramani Mahama's direction.
According to her, Mr. Mahama would give the repair of these roads first priority if he were elected in the upcoming election. Bawah asserts that strengthening the local economy and aiding the nation's cocoa growers depend on expanding access to the Western Region.
Ghana's capital city is home to the Cocoa Board, Cocoa Research Institute, Produce Buying Company, and other supporting institutions related to cocoa cultivation and production.
Even the roads that lead to the area are in terrible shape. In order to improve access, infrastructure, road quality, and the environment in and around cocoa farming communities, John Mahama's proposal to rebuild and renovate the road infrastructure for our cocoa-growing districts was a crucial intervention.
Unfortunately, the lies and misinformation helped our opponents win the 2016 election, and the NPP hasn't delivered on cocoa roads in the past eight years.
Under Akufo Addo and Bawumia, Ghana's cocoa-growing communities have been shortchanged and have become impoverished as a result of all the broken promises, including 1D1F and one million dollars per constituency.
