Following a horrific fire that destroyed almost all of Kantamanto Market in Accra's Central Business District to ashes, hundreds of traders have been forced to relocate.

When the fire broke out late last night, it caused extensive damage, and merchants rushed to save their wares as the flames quickly spread.

In an effort to contain the fire, the Ghana National Fire Service sent out fire engines and other apparatus from all around the Greater Accra Region.

Despite their best efforts, firefighters said the incident was of an unprecedented extent, consuming vast portions of the market.

Witnesses and desperate traders joined the fight to put out the fire, but the fire's strength overcame their efforts, leaving behind images of desperation and suffering.
