John Dramani Mahama's targeted tariffs have drawn criticism from Yaw Nsarkoh, the former executive vice president of Unilever Global Markets.

John Dramani Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) made a social pact with Ghanaians before to being elected president.

The previous president, who is currently the president-elect, promised the young people in the aforementioned contract that he would abolish the betting tax within his first ninety days in office.

He promised Ghanaians that the e-levy, COVID-19, and emissions levy will be eliminated in addition to the betting tax. However, in a social media post, former Executive Vice President of Unilever Global Markets Yaw Nsarkoh expressed his opinion such promises are populist and should be reconsidered.

He contends that since the nation is insolvent and these taxes are what generate income to support national operations, the hole that would result from doing away with them cannot be filled.

"Revenue from the 3 JDM 'targeted taxes' comes to GHS 1trn in 2024," stated Yaw Nsarkoh's social media post. You can't easily fill a hole like that "from somewhere else!" Put an end to populism; tax laws may be modelled scientifically. Take action. We have gone bankrupt.
