John Dramani Mahama, the incoming president, has stated his intention to increase the advantages of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) between Ghana and other nations in the area.

The former president claims he will make sure the accomplishment is made by drawing on his background as "a former Chair of the AU high-level committee on Trade."

Mahama said on social media following a meeting with Kenyan President William Ruto that the AfCFTA offers African countries a chance to take advantage of improved commercial ties with one another.

Over the weekend, John Mahama paid Ruto a visit to thank him for his support over the years and to extend an invitation to his inauguration on Tuesday, January 07, 2024.

He said that the meeting gave them a chance to talk about other topics, such as leveraging the economic advantages of the individual countries through the AfCFTA and ensuring security on the continent.

It was a fantastic chance to talk about continental security, our regional integration initiatives, and how we can all work together to maximize the advantages of the AfCFTA. I'm still dedicated to boosting commerce between our nations within the auspices of the AfCFTA, since I was the previous chair of the AU high-level committee on trade," he said.

He went on to say, "We will improve ties between Ghana and Kenya."
