Operation Keep The Lights On, a new operation launched by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), will begin on Wednesday, January 15, and run through Friday, January 31, 2025.

This program, which will be implemented in all ECG operational areas, intends to inspect prepaid meters for problems and retrieve money owing by customers.

"This massive revenue mobilization exercise will focus on all categories of customers in arrears as well as the inspection of all prepaid meters to check their integrity," the company said in a statement issued on January 13, 2025.

The company is urging customers to settle their unpaid bills quickly to avoid disconnection during the exercise. It also warned that reconnecting oneself after disconnection is a crime. “Customers are being reminded that it is a criminal offense to undertake self-reconnection after disconnection,” the statement added.

Since many employees, including top management, will be actively participating in the program, ECG offices in various regions and districts will have fewer staff members accessible during this operation period. "In order to facilitate full participation by top management and staff, the regional and district offices will function with a lean staff pool that will provide essential services to customers during this exercise." The comment was recorded.

Additionally, ECG noted that the law supports its conduct. "We have complete access to all of our installations thanks to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission's LI (2413)," the statement read.

In order to ensure the success of the exercise, the company hereby urges the public to work with its employees. It begged, "Help ECG serve you better." This action by the ECG is their way of helping to keep the lights on in spite of the nation's impending power outage.
