As they represent their constituents for the duration of their four-year tenure, newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) have been reminded by Speaker of the House of Representatives Alban Bagbin to act responsibly and with prudence.
In his speech at the 8th Parliament's dissolution, Bagbin praised those Members of Parliament who were elected again and acknowledged those who did not win seats in the general elections of 2024.
The new Members of Parliament will be sworn in at midnight on January 7, 2025.
"I hope first-time members, who may be watching today, will take heed and remember that the day of accountability to the people is only four short years away, starting January 7, 2025," Bagbin said in a speech to the incoming MPs, underscoring the significance of accountability.
"Some of you answered this call and have been rewarded with another term in Parliament following the just-ended elections," he said, extending his best wishes to the MPs who were able to hold onto their seats.
"I recite the prayer I said four years ago to those of you who have the honor of returning to the 9th Parliament. I hope your career lasts as long and advances as mine has.
