Wa Central MP Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo has voiced harsh criticism of the government's Free Senior High School (SHS) program, pointing out serious difficulties in putting it into practice.
Speaking on The Big Issue with Selorm Adonoo on Channel One TV, Dr. Pelpuo contended that despite its good intentions, the initiative has not successfully fulfilled its promises.
It isn't among the accomplishments he ought to be discussing. Ghanaians suffer greatly when you force what you claim to be free on them. Even though you can't feed them, you're spending a lot more money on a child.
Sometimes they only eat once a day. What are you doing to the numerous individuals attending the school? What do you want them to become? It's awful.
His remarks come after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo highlighted the important progress his administration has made in reforming Ghana's educational system, highlighting the wide-ranging effects of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Free Senior High School (SHS) programs.
About 5.7 million young Ghanaians have benefited from these programs, according to President Akufo-Addo, who made this announcement during his final State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025.
