To protest a salt mining lease that their traditional chiefs gave to a commercial developer, some Elmina villagers in the Central Region have taken to the streets.
Through the main street, these Elmina locals demonstrated against the salt mining lease.
Wearing red and brandishing placards, the protesters are calling on their traditional leaders to answer for their actions.
"We want our salt" and "Give us what is due us and don't sell Elmina" were among the messages on the placards.
According to the group, the traditional council has not included the community in decisions over the lease of their salt mining properties.
John Quayeson, the protests' leader, stated their worries.
"We would like our leaders to understand that the salt is not for them."
But the local traditional authorities have rejected the allegations. The Edna Traditional Council's Adontihini, Nana Nkuando IV, characterized the demonstration as a deliberate attempt to damage the council's reputation.
He declared, "It's an action in nullity."
