Samuel Nartey George, the member of parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has strongly warned the departing government not to sign contracts and backdate them after the general elections in 2024.

He claims that any deals reached in such a situation will not be upheld by the new administration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama. Mr. George especially criticised efforts to complete a contract on the Ghana.gov portal in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The integrity of government and accountability during the transition phase is compromised by such actions, he said, adding that "the attempt to sign a contract on the Ghana.gov platform should cease with immediate effect." Ghanaians were reassured by the Ningo-Prampram lawmaker that the next administration is keeping a careful eye on ongoing contract signing operations.

We are keeping an eye on everything that is going on with contract signing and backdating right now. "Notice is duly served," he said, stressing the importance of openness and following the right procedures.

Mr. George's comments highlight the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) dedication to protecting public funds and guaranteeing a smooth transition. He warned that any contract signed after the elections and backdated will be considered invalid by the next government, and he urged the departing administration to operate in good faith.
