In light of their humiliating loss in the recently concluded elections, members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been urged to change their ways.
With 137 seats in Parliament now, the NPP will have fewer than 90 representatives in the next House, which will be sworn in on Wednesday, January 07, 2025.
When the Electoral Commission (EC) announced the results and proclaimed the victor of the Saturday, December 07, 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the country's presidential candidate and vice president, had received 41% of the total valid votes cast, with nine seats still outstanding. Controversial results from the remaining constituencies have been gathered and taken to the nation's capital for clarification and announcement.
Some constituencies have been declared in the interim, but the European Commission claims that these declarations did not adhere to due process and has declared them to be void.
Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP, both of which are asserting victories in the contested constituencies, have surrounded the Tesano Police Station and Police Training School.
The NDC, on Friday, December 13, secured an injunction on the re-collation describing it as illegal.
Senyo Kwasi Hosi, a businessman and policy analyst, commented on TV3's extensive coverage of Ghana Decides 2024 on Friday, December 13. He suggested that the ruling NPP should accept loss and work to rebuild the party rather than wasting time arguing about seats they have clearly lost.
He claimed that in an attempt to bridge the embarrassing divide between themselves and the NDC and maybe prevent the present opposition party from gaining a two-thirds majority in the 9th Parliament, members of the NPP are squabbling over seats they know they have lost.
According to him, Ghanaians gave the opposition a resounding majority in the polls, and the sooner the NPP accepts its fate and moves on, the better.
"No one chose to grant them a two-thirds majority." This predicament was brought about by the people of Ghana. You must put up with it. Although it carries some risk, he said, "take a back seat, look into your affairs, and change your ways if you fail to manage a country well and this is how the people have rejected you."
