The 8th Parliament's dissolution and the 9th Parliament's inauguration are expected to go smoothly, according to the Planning Committee.
Speaking at a news conference, Camillo Pwamang, the Deputy Clerk of Parliament and Deputy Coordinator for the Dissolution and Inauguration Committee, said they are ready to plan the festivities in line with the constitution.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, the 4th Republic's 8th Parliament will formally disband.
At 11:00 PM, the newly elected Members of Parliament would also meet to choose a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.
"We are committed to guiding this next transition smoothly and with the utmost respect for constitutional and procedural propriety, as it represents yet another significant milestone in this illustrious heritage.
"This time of change should be characterized by serious accountability and teamwork. In addition to administrative effectiveness, it requires us to have a steadfast dedication to national unity, transparency, and inclusivity.
"By making parliament and its procedures more accessible to the public, we can further solidify the pillars of our democracy, improve the integrity of our legislative processes, and reaffirm our commitment to serving all Ghanaians."
"The election of the Speaker of Parliament is scheduled for January 6, 2025; this election is a pivotal moment as it will set the tone for legislative leadership in the upcoming term," said Gifty Twum Ampofo, the chairperson of the Planning Committee. The presidential inauguration, which is set for January 7, 2025, will honor our enduring democratic traditions while simultaneously ushering in a new era of government. As we welcome our new leaders, we invite all Ghanaians to participate in this momentous occasion.
