Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, has harshly denounced his latest indictment, describing it as a ruthless and premeditated attempt to frighten him into compliance and stifle his dissenting voice.

A strong opponent of the government's economic policies, Ato Forson called the accusations against him regarding an ambulance procurement agreement baseless and politically driven, with the intention of furthering party agendas.

He charged that Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney General, was spearheading a "malicious prosecution" effort to harm his standing and reduce his power as a well-known opposition leader opposing corruption.

Ato Forson described what he considers to be politically motivated accusations intended to silence his criticism of the government's economic policies during his remarks on the floor of parliament on Monday, January 6.

He also drew attention to the prosecution's timing, which aligned with divisive discussions around the government's divisive e-levy scheme. Ato Forson contended that he was the subject of political retaliation because of his outspoken opposition to the e-levy.

"My crime was raising concerns about an economy that was being mismanaged and destroyed by a small number of people in government, and the Attorney General's recent prosecution—or persecution—of me on baseless and fabricated charges was intended to intimidate, silence, and totally silence a known dissenting voice."Nobody should be surprised that the regime immediately targeted me after my prosecution started following the e-levy dispute.

"Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney General and the minister in charge of justice, was resolved to use any and all obscene means to accomplish his goals of malicious prosecution in order to appease the regime."
