Prominent broadcaster Captain Smart has stirred controversy with allegations against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential candidate, as Ghana's general elections approach. Captain Smart attacked Dr. Bawumia's latest campaign pledges, including his promise to do away with the E-levy and betting taxes if elected, during an appearance on Onua TV's Maakye morning show.

Captain Smart questioned Dr. Bawumia's honesty, pointing out that Bawumia was heavily involved in the NPP government's introduction of these taxes. He maintained that there was a contradiction between the flagbearer and the party's fundamental values since Bawumia was running against measures he had assisted in putting into place.

Additionally, Captain Smart broadened his critique to include the NPP's apparent internal conflicts. He said that important party figures had indirectly backed opposition leader John Dramani Mahama, including party chairman Wontumi, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and NPP vice presidential candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh. Captain Smart claimed that these behaviours showed a lack of unity inside the NPP, which could jeopardise the party's election-related efforts.

The broadcaster voiced worries that these internal conflicts would harm the NPP's chances of winning elections. He maintained that a split party could find it difficult to communicate with voters as a whole, which could undermine its prospects of winning.

Captain Smart's comments have heightened the discussion regarding the NPP's internal dynamics and its capacity to present a united, powerful front as the election draws closer.
