John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has once again charged that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is running a fake news website.
He claims the action is intended to damage his reputation by disseminating false information about him. The NDC's flag bearer, John Mahama, claims that the NPP has turned to disseminating false information to deceive Ghanaians after its campaign for Saturday's elections failed.
John Mahama refuted a fake news recording that claimed he planned the attack on the Asantehene's convoy while returning from a burial at Nkoranza during a visit to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Tuesday, December 03, 2024, as part of his Ashanti region tour.
He informed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, that the audios that are circulating are artificial intelligence (AI) produced by a department within the president's administration with the intention of damaging his name.
The NDC's presidential candidate advised Otumfuo to ignore the allegations, stating that they are never accurate.
The term "fake news" refers to the practice of using computer technology to produce content that, to someone listening, sounds like your voice. I saw one on my phone this morning with my photo on it, speaking false stuff with a voice like mine.
However, the seat of government is involved in each of these. The purpose of their department is to disseminate that false information. I heard them say this morning that I have asked some young people to throw stones at Otumfuo's convoy," he said.
"They have resorted to spreading propaganda and fake news because their campaign has failed," he said, refuting the accusations. All of them are untrue, Nana, and I am confident that God is aware of everyone's innermost thoughts. With hope for the NDC in the next elections, he reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful campaign and elections.
"God selects a king, and I have faith that He will name a leader who will come and rescue the country from the dire economic situation this government has left it in," he continued.
