Following a few weeks of recession, Ghana's Parliament will meet again today, Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre's Grand Arena (AICC).
Following the presidential and legislative elections held on December 07, 2024, which decided the fate of many legislators, this will be the House's first session.
The meeting takes place after the Speaker's Office confirmed the previously announced site for the sitting in an official circular on Wednesday, December 11.
Following a decision by the Speaker of Parliament that was overruled by the Supreme Court, Parliament was defined by a great deal of confusion regarding whose caucus was majority and minority before to the election on Saturday, December 7.
The Majority Caucus utilised the House's Standing Orders to recall members to attend to what it described as the government's urgent business, as the government sought to finish several tasks before the end of the 8th Parliament.
But according to the Speaker, lawmakers were busy starting their campaigns and wouldn't meet again until after the elections.
The balance of power in the legislature has changed as a result of the loss of several prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of parliament, including Andy Appiah-Kubi, Henry Quartey, KT Hammond, and Ursula Owusu-Ekulful. With more than 1.6 million votes, John Dramani Mahama defeated Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP in the presidential election, continuing the NDC's electoral victory.
