Today, Friday, December 27, the Supreme Court will consider a judicial review motion submitted by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The case challenges a High Court decision from December 20 that ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to revisit the outcomes of parliamentary elections in nine contested constituencies.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates in the impacted areas filed a mandamus application, which led to the High Court's decision.
The court mandated that the EC confirm and recollect results in the challenged constituencies in order to fulfill its constitutional duty.
Seven of the nine constituencies have had their results re-collated by the EC thus far, but Dome/Kwabenya and Ablekuma North are still pending.
However, the NDC has vehemently disagreed with the decision and the re-collation procedure, calling it unlawful and irrational.
The party claimed that the High Court overreached its authority and compromised the electoral process's integrity, procedural justice, and transparency.
Because the Supreme Court's ruling could establish a precedent for settling electoral disputes in Ghana, this well-known case has attracted national attention.
The conclusion, which might have a big impact on the nation's election system, is anxiously anticipated by political observers and stakeholders.
