Blay Nyamekye Armah, the candidate for Sekondi's Member of Parliament, has begun a campaign to restore streetlights throughout the district, just two weeks after defeating incumbent MP Andrew Egyapa Mercer.

The program, called the "Lighting the Streets" campaign, is a component of his pledge to bring Sekondi back to its former splendor.

Concerns over the absence of working lighting on Sekondi's main thoroughfares, such as European Town, Anafo, and the section connecting Bakado to Nkotompo, have long prompted the initiative.

Due to inadequate lighting, these areas were dangerous and gloomy at night. Earlier this year, during TV3's "Fixing the Streetlights" campaign. Numerous main streets in Sekondi were photographed in total darkness, highlighting the terrible condition of the city's streetlights.

To increase safety and evening activity, especially during the holiday season, Blay Nyamekye Armah has started changing the streetlight bulbs along these important roadways.

Around 80 streetlight bulbs will be installed along the European town to Barkado route in phase one of the street lighting project, which is being implemented in phases. The second phase will be completed between Barkado and Nkotompo Road.

The intervention has been enthusiastically received by the residents. Commercial driver Razak Karim, who described a near-miss with an 8-year-old child because of the absence of lamps, expressed relief. For us, this is a big relief. Driving in the dark has been dangerous, so this initiative is a godsend," he remarked.

In addition to making Sekondi more attractive, the lamps are expected to spark lively nighttime business.

Residents are feeling hopeful as a result of the MP-elect's prompt action, since many see it as a step toward a safer and more promising Sekondi.
