Ghanaian police continue their efforts to apprehend individuals involved in post-election unrest and retrieve MP Ursula Owusu's stolen Nissan Pick-Up.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful is the departing MP for Ablekuma West.
The police have successfully retrieved a Nissan Pick-Up that was taken from Ursula Owusu's office, the MP for Ablekuma West. Unknown persons stole the car on Monday, December 9, when they broke into the offices of the departing MP for the Ablekuma West Constituency. They also took three motorcycles and the Nissan Pick-Up, among other valuables.
The NDC's parliamentary candidate, Rev. Kweku Addo, defeated the three-term MP in a humiliating election on Saturday. In the parliamentary election, the clergyman received 31,866 votes, while Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful received 26,575.
The car is currently in the Dansoman Police Station, according to ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Police Head of Public Affairs Directorate, who made the announcement during a media conference on Thursday. To catch the criminals involved, the police are still working. Police said 17 additional people have been taken into custody in relation to office attacks. This raises the overall number of arrests for disruptions following the election to 123.
Additionally, police are searching for suspects who damaged police stations in Wenchi, Bono Region, and Techiman, Bono East Region.
"We want to reassure the public that we will do everything in our power to have them arrested so they can face justice."
We also want to question people who are in hiding how long they plan to stay in this self-imprisonment, and how long they can run. ACP Ansah-Akrofi declared, "We are coming for you, and we'll get you arrested, no matter what you do or what it takes."
The Ghana Police Service has reassured government employees that they can feel safe and return to work despite the ongoing attacks on government offices.
This guarantee comes after the Head of Civil Service issued an order on Wednesday telling all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to take preventative action while doing their duties and temporarily close workplaces if employees believe their lives are in danger.
