WAEC acknowledges that the Education Ministry has provided an additional GHS35 million.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced giving the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) an extra GHS35 million to help process the results of the 2024 WASSCE.
This comes after the Ministry and WAEC had a public discussion in which the Ministry asked WAEC's Public Relations Officer (PRO) to confirm information internally before releasing statements that would mislead the public or jeopardize the Ministry's work.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, promised reporters during a visit to WAEC's offices on Tuesday, December 24, that the results will be made public by December 29.
He said that in order to guarantee prompt publication, WAEC was completing the marking procedure.
WAEC, however, refuted the Minister's assertions, especially the one about the release of an extra GHS25 million for operational purposes.
At first, the Council had voiced doubts about completing the deadline of December 29 because of budgetary limitations.
In a clarification released on Thursday, December 26, the Ministry revealed that WAEC had confirmed receiving GHS25 million in a letter dated December 20, 2024.
The Ministry added that WAEC had asked for an extra GHS35 million to speed up the processing of the results, which the Ministry had granted.
The Council received a check worth GHS35 million on December 25, 2024, according to a statement released by WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, on Friday, December 27.
He clarified that the money would be utilized to finish processing the results for the 2024 WASSCE candidates and to scan the objective answer sheets.
He also mentioned how hard WAEC was working to get the results out by the end of the month.
In the meanwhile, Mr. Kapi urged the Ministry to release the remaining amount so that WAEC can pay suppliers of exam materials, supervisors, invigilators, and script checkers, among other financial obligations.
"The Council reaffirms its commitment to fulfilling its mandate despite the challenges and wishes all its stakeholders the best of the season," he said in closing.
