Since New Year's Day, residents of Ho, the regional capital of Volta, have been swarming to abandoned boreholes and well sites in a desperate attempt to find water.

This comes after a pump malfunction at the Kpeve Water Headworks on New Year's Eve that affected the regional capital's water supply.

Water supplies in Peki, Have, Bame, Akrofu, Ziavi, and Klefe have also been impacted by the issue.

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) promised in a statement on Thursday, January 2, that the emergency response team was working nonstop to fix the issue and get the water supply back as soon as possible.

But it appears that the issue is far from resolved.
Since then, the GWCL has kept quiet about the issue, leaving the public in the dark.

The issue was made worse by the fact that several of the wells from which the villagers collected water had dried up as of Saturday morning (January 4).

According to reports, the company's engineers from Tema and Kpong joined their Volta Region counterparts to assist in resolving the issue.

Since the town has essentially dried up, the issue has also had an impact on chop bars and other businesses.

As of Saturday morning, some men, women, and children living in the vicinity of Sokode-Lokoe were rushing to the bagged water company's location to collect the waste water that was flowing down the drain.

Others used rented cars to transport jerry cans to neighboring communities in order to collect water from dirty and drying streams.

In recent days, Graphic Online has made multiple unsuccessful attempts to get in touch with the GWCL authorities.

Now, the regional capital's main medical facilities depend on its reservoirs for water.

Meanwhile, the issue is causing a great deal of public outrage.
