A troubling occurrence that happened when the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was working to contain a fire outbreak at the Techiman market has been made public.
While battling the intense fire, the agency reported that some people were severing their water pipe.
ACF02 Naomi Adubea Sarpong, Regional Fire Commander Bono East, made this revelation.
When these people were apprehended, they said they were attempting to cut the hose to aid the fire department in battling the fire, she told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM. The firefighter characterized the circumstance as regrettable and interfering with their duties.
As a result, she has counseled Ghanaians to refrain from interfering with the GNFS's efforts while they are on the ground trying to contain an outbreak.
ACF02 According to Naomi Adubea Sarpong, the public should refrain from meddling with their work because firefighting demands professional abilities that only their trained personnel possess.
"As a trained firefighter, I had never seen anything so bizarre as what I found at the fire scene. I have worked in the service for more than 34 years, and I have never encountered this regrettable behavior. At the fire scene, several people were using knives to cut through our water hose. They claimed to be attempting to get water from the hose to aid us in battling the fire when they were apprehended. It involved about three of our water engines. They sliced through three of our fire engines' water delivery hoses. This is bad and makes people want to quit.
Meanwhile she has also revealed that if they had received the emergency on time, they would have managed to prevent the fire from destroying the number of the shops involved.
"The outbreak is real. It was at 9:59 p.m. that someone informed us that the Techiman Market was on fire. The time it took to get staff to the scene was less than a minute. When we brought an appliance to the spot, we discovered that the fire was very intense. When we arrived, the stores had already been demolished. We had to contact Nkoranza, Kintampo, and Wenchi for assistance and install an additional appliance. Consequently, we sent out six fire engines.
"We have pros on staff. In order to stop the fire from spreading to other sites, they were able to confine it. The fire has been contained. Numerous stores were demolished. There are more than 100 stores that were destroyed. She said that some of them were tabletops.
