Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has voiced his displeasure with President John Dramani Mahama's "tot-tot" approach to ministerial nominations.
His statements followed the Speaker of Parliament's announcement that the President had nominated three Minister-designates for the Appointments Committee to review.
President Mahama nominated Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate, John Abdulai Jinapor as Energy Minister-designate, and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister-designate on Thursday, January 9.
Addressing Parliament, Afenyo-Markin argued that a government committed to delivering a “24-hour economy” should have a comprehensive list of ministerial appointments ready, rather than making piecemeal nominations.
He emphasized that this strategy would cause uncertainty in important sectors and postpone important governance procedures.
"Mr. Speaker only read out three names when he read out the names. The Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Finance Minister Designate, and Energy Minister Designate. "This 'tot-tot-tot-tot' nomination is inappropriate, Mr. Speaker. In opposition, this government pledged a 24-hour economy, Mr. Speaker. He remarked, "They told us they were ready for government."
