I describe Apuko as a Storytelling type of rap. A rare storyteller rap that is not like the ordinary.
The song is set in the Upper East Region in Ghana, and it deals with themes of poverty and boastfulness.
The initial verse mainly addresses how individuals overlook the reality that APUKO isn’t what he claims to be simply due to his loud presence and visibility. The rise of ADUKO, which actually fulfilled what APUKO was asserting, forced APUKO to remain quiet.
The Hook states that APUKO is indifferent. He lacks any sense of shame.
The second verse continues to describe the atrocities APUKO and his like cause in society.
Womanizing, Alcohol, drugs, attacks on people who speak against their behavior, disrespect and disregard for authority.
At the end, the society wants APUKO and he gang out but it won’t be easy. Yet he still doesn’t care.
The music is a mix of hip-hop and traditional Ghanaian or Kologo rhythms, and the lyrics are sung in both English and Frafra.
Soorebia's Apuko is a powerful and moving song that is sure to resonate with many people.
