A brazen daylight robbery has shaken the Commercial Street area of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, leaving a dangerous gunman on the run.
Around 10 am on January 29, 2025, the building housing the popular Waller Cafe became the scene of the crime where a lone individual, feigning a Mobile Money transaction, suddenly brandished a firearm and demanded cash and valuables from the vendor.
The swift and seemingly silent nature of the robbery stunned onlookers. Despite the presence of other shop owners and early morning customers, the perpetrator managed to carry out the act undetected until it was too late.
An eyewitness, Toufic Ataana recounted the astonishment and disbelief that spread across the street.
"It was shocking to see such a thing occur in this part of town," he said.
The robber's apparent nonchalant attitude prior to the event added to the shock.
Once the stolen items and money were secured, he fled on a nearby motorcycle, rapidly disappearing into the lively streets of Bolgatanga.
Police have been informed and are now investigating the incident.
The silent effectiveness of the robbery has left locals unsettled, increasing worries about safety in the usually busy commercial center, which has not recorded a violent occurrence in years.
A search is ongoing for the armed robber, and officials are encouraging anyone who has information to step forward.
