Deputy Attorney General Diana Dapaah has responded to Ghanaians' concerns about the government's approach to recent protests against illegal mining, known as galamsey.

In light of the arrests of several protesters, there have been criticisms regarding the government's dedication to safeguarding citizens' rights.

She assured the public that President Nana Akufo-Addo, a well-respected lawyer and leader, is committed to defending the rights of all Ghanaians.

During an exclusive interview with Kwame Adinkra on Pure FM, Dapaah remarked that “President Akufo-Addo is not an authoritarian leader. He values freedom of expression and honors the rights of every citizen.”

Her remarks follow rising tensions related to the arrests of demonstrators expressing their concerns about the government's stance on illegal mining.

She further pointed out that the unfortunate events involving the protesters could have been prevented had they respected their constitutional rights while fulfilling their obligations. She stated, “It’s crucial to understand that rights come with responsibilities. Had the protesters adhered to lawful procedures, the outcome might have been different.”
