A video that has gone viral on social media erroneously alleges that the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, was asked to negotiate with the President over remarks he made recently about four members of parliament. The Ghanaian Parliament has responded to the video.

Parliament strongly refuted these claims in a statement, claiming that the footage, which was recorded on July 4, 2024, shows the Speaker giving the President the first Democracy Cup.

They underlined that attempts to distort this event are deceptive and meant to compromise the Speaker's credibility.

"The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has been invited to a meeting with the President to negotiate a settlement in respect of the pronouncement made by the Rt. Hon. Speaker on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in response to a call by the Minority Leader to declare the seats of four (4) Members of Parliament vacant," reads a video that has gone viral on social media.

A delegation led by the Honorable Speaker presented the President with the inaugural Democracy Cup. the attempt to misrepresent the video and distort the facts in order to cast doubt on the Rt. Hon.

It is not only regrettable but also dishonest for the Speaker and Parliament. The public is hereby cautioned to treat the story with the disdain it merits and to disregard the attempt to deceive them into believing something that has never happened.
