Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, the incumbent MP for Amenfi Central Constituency, has withdrawn from the upcoming election as an independent candidate. This decision comes after the Sekondi High Court's ruling on November 11, 2024, which cleared Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, to contest the election.

Kwakye-Ackah initially decided to run as an independent candidate after losing the NDC primaries in May 2023. However, following the court's decision and the Electoral Commission's confirmation of Joana Gyan's candidacy, he withdrew from the election, citing that his reasons for running independently were no longer valid .

In his statement, Kwakye-Ackah expressed gratitude to the party elders and leading members for their counsel, which led to his decision to withdraw. He emphasized that his choice was made in the supreme interest of the party .

Meanwhile, Joana Cudjoe has urged party supporters to put aside any grievances and welcome Kwakye-Ackah back to the party. This development follows a similar decision by Dr. Karl Mark Arhin, another independent parliamentary candidate who lost in the NDC primaries and has since declared his support for Joana Gyan Cudjoe .

Kwakye-Ackah's withdrawal is significant, given his experience as a member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, representing the Amenfi Central Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress .
