Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed strong support for former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi, blaming his ouster on sabotage and self-serving interests in the football community.

In an Instagram Live session on Thursday, Gyan lamented the status of Ghanaian football after Nyantakyi's departure, characterizing the former GFA chief and CAF Vice President as a unifying figure dedicated to the sport's development.

Gyan claimed that Nyantakyi's demise was organized by people who tried to corrupt the football system but were confronted with resistance.

The former captain's remarks have stirred debate over leadership and reform in Ghanaian football.

"When Nyantakyi was president of the Ghana Football Association, see where Ghana football was. Nyantakyi was never the type of person who tolerated internal conflict. He would not allow selfish agendas."

"If someone came to him for selfish reasons, he would reject it. That is why they wanted him out. Have you seen what has happened to Ghana football after his resignation as president of the GFA?

Asamoah Gyan praised Nyantakyi's achievements, particularly his promotion to the position of CAF Vice President, which cemented him as a prominent figure in African football.

He claimed that the former GFA president's leadership brought much-needed stability and guidance to Ghanaian football.

The former striker claims that Ghanaian football has taken a significant deterioration since Nyantakyi's departure in 2018.

He criticized those who opposed Nyantakyi's leadership, alleging that they prioritized their personal interests over the promotion of the sport, resulting in the current stagnation and lack of development.

"Nyantakyi was taking us somewhere. He rose to the position of CAF Vice President, making him one of the most powerful figures in African football. They sabotaged him because he refused to give in to their selfish objectives. They found a way to remove him from his position.

"People disagreed with Nyantakyi's leadership style, but the truth was that he was doing well. Take a look at Ghana football during his guidance and compare it to now. It's obvious who the problem was."

Nyantakyi was the president of the Ghana Football Association from December 30, 2005 to June 7, 2018.
