Bawumia Takes a Swipe at Mahama: "What's He Bringing Back, Dumsor or Guinea Fowl?"
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has taken a jab at former President John Mahama. Bawumia questioned what Mahama would bring back to the government if he were to be re-elected.
Bawumia's comments were made during a campaign platform, where he asked the audience if they wanted Mahama to return to power. He then proceeded to list some of the challenges that Ghana faced during Mahama's presidency, including power outages, known as "dumsor" in local parlance.
Bawumia also made a humorous reference to Mahama's campaign promises, asking if he was bringing back "akɔmfɛm" (Guinea fowl) or "nkokɔ nkitikiti" (small chicks). The comments were met with laughter and applause from the audience.
Bawumia's comments were not just limited to humor, however. He also took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of the NPP government, including the creation of jobs, investments in agriculture and industry, and improvements in infrastructure.
The NPP flagbearer also challenged Mahama to a debate, saying that he was confident that he would emerge victorious. Bawumia claimed that Mahama had "run away" from the challenge, and that he was not willing to engage in a debate.
Overall, Bawumia's comments were seen as a confident and assertive challenge to Mahama and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). With elections looming, it remains to be seen how Mahama and the NDC will respond to Bawumia's jabs.
