In a letter dated October 16, 2024, Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, gave instructions to all second cycle institutions to resume teaching and learning on October 30, 2024, through Mr. Prince Agyemang-duah, the Director in charge of the Schools and Instructions Division.

Through the Director of Schools and Instructions Division, he gave the directive that all first-year students be promoted right away following the academic year's finish on October 28.

"Please note that the current first year students in Transitional Calendar schools will end their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, 28th October, 2024 and be promoted to Form two (2) and continue with the new academic year immediately."

The director described when and how student promotion should be carried out. "On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, new first-year students in Transitional and Single Track schools will also start classes. Furthermore, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Single Track Schools will reopen for the new academic year to all continuing students."

According to the Director General, the decision will allow September to once again be the month when the academic year begins. "This reopening date aims to ensure that the school calendar reverts to a September start in the coming years and students will be able to write their 2024/2025 WASSCE in May/June 2025." . The BECE results and student placement are anticipated to be released at any time soon.
