The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene, has praised the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, calling it a game-changer that will help Ghana achieve universal literacy and become a global leader in education. According to her, the policy has already led to a significant increase in school enrollment across all levels of education ¹.
Madam Owusu Banahene emphasized that a literate society will have far-reaching benefits, including reduced poverty, improved living standards, and healthier lifestyles. She also highlighted the importance of STEM education in positioning Ghana as a global hub for innovation and expertise.
The Minister appealed to Ghanaians to support Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the successor to President Akufo-Addo, arguing that his leadership would ensure the continuation of impactful policies like Free SHS. She emphasized the need for policy continuity to achieve long-term national goals, including universal literacy and sustainable development.
It's worth noting that the Free SHS policy has received widespread acclaim, with the Asantehene also praising it as a key initiative in providing equitable access to education . The Ghana Bar Association has also called for reforms to the policy to ensure its sustainability .
