The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) is taking a strong stance against partisan appointments and promotions within the civil service. According to CLOGSAG's Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, such actions undermine the neutrality of the civil service and weaken its ability to operate effectively .
CLOGSAG has been vocal about this issue since 2017, expressing concerns over the appointment of party loyalists into the civil service. They've also raised red flags about the appointment of special assistants, which has made the work of civil servants more cumbersome .
Despite petitioning the government through the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, their concerns have fallen on deaf ears. With the government transition underway, CLOGSAG is cautioning the incoming administration against appointing and promoting workers based on partisan lines .
CLOGSAG is also advocating for better working conditions, including a new salary structure beyond the single spine salary structure. Although negotiations are ongoing, Isaac Bampoe Addo assures members that the new salary structure will be implemented soon .
Additionally, CLOGSAG is concerned about the environmental impact of illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) activities. They propose strengthening district and municipal assemblies to address this issue .
