The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended its directive to limit media access at collation centers for the 2024 general elections. This decision comes after the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) and other stakeholders expressed concerns about the restrictions .
The initial directive had limited media access to eight accredited media houses at each constituency collation center and twelve at regional centers. However, the EC has now decided to revisit this decision and engage with stakeholders, including the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), to develop a new policy on media access to collation centers .
This suspension is a welcome move, as it ensures that the media can effectively cover the electoral process and provide timely updates to the public.
