Godfred Dame, Ghana's Attorney-General, considers the recent international arbitration tribunal ruling in London a significant victory for the government. Although Ghana was ordered to pay $5.4 million to Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet) following the early termination of their service agreement, the tribunal deemed the termination lawful under Article 11.3 of the contract .

This ruling is a big win for Ghana, as GCNet was seeking over 3.3 billion Ghana Cedis ($276 million) in damages. The tribunal also ruled that GCNet waived its right to seek damages regarding government policy on exemptions and discounts affecting its fees. Additionally, GCNet must pay Ghana $2.19 million in legal fees, including $1.74 million in representation fees and $441,932 for expert witness fees and expenses, plus interest .

It's worth noting that Godfred Dame has been a key figure in Ghana's legal landscape, serving as Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice before becoming Attorney-General in 2021 . His expertise in law and experience in high-profile cases have likely contributed to Ghana's successful defense in this arbitration.
