A disagreement has erupted in Ghana's Parliament over a request by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to recall the House. The NPP had submitted a petition to Speaker Alban Bagbin, seeking to reconvene Parliament to address what they described as "high priority" government business .

However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament have opposed the petition, arguing that it fails to meet constitutional and procedural requirements. According to Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, leader of the NDC MPs, the petition lacks the necessary justification for an urgent recall .

The NDC MPs have also questioned the necessity of the recall, pointing out that no emergency or pressing government business has been demonstrated. They argue that approving the request would contravene Parliament's standing orders and legal precedents .

The disagreement has highlighted the tensions between the NPP and NDC ahead of the 2024 general election. The NPP had initially triggered the recall, citing Article 112(3) of the Constitution and Standing Order 53, which allow for a recall of Parliament with the support of at least 15% of MPs .
