Oheneba Boamah, a Ghanaian media personality, has made a bold statement, threatening to lead a naked demonstration if President-elect John Dramani Mahama reappoints George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in 2025. Boamah has been critical of Dampare, accusing him of being unfit for the role and using unscrupulous means to lobby for his reappointment ¹.
Boamah's comments have sparked a heated debate over political lobbying and the future of Ghana's police leadership. It's worth noting that Boamah has been involved in controversies in the past, including being jailed for 14 days in 2022 for contempt of court ².
The media personality has expressed his disappointment in Dampare, alleging that he is maneuvering to retain his position despite being unfit for the role. Boamah has also described Dampare as a "dangerous politician" ¹.
Whether Mahama will retain Dampare or appoint a new police chief remains to be seen. However, Boamah's fiery remarks have undoubtedly set the tone for what could be a contentious decision.
