Ghanaian youths are shifting their focus from traditional party affiliations to voting based on performance. A Ghanaian youth recently stated that elections are no longer about the NPP or NDC, but rather about voting as punishment for nonperformance . This mindset change is reflected in the recent 2024 elections, where the NPP was voted out, and the NDC's John Dramani Mahama was declared the President-elect.
The youth are now more interested in holding leaders accountable for their actions and voting based on the impact of their policies on the country. Former President John Mahama, during his campaign, rallied the youth to vote back the NDC to save the situation, stating that the reckless and excessive borrowing by the NPP has jeopardized the future of the country for the next 10 years .
This shift in focus from party loyalty to performance-based voting is a significant development in Ghana's electoral landscape. It highlights the growing desire for good governance and effective leadership among Ghanaian youths.
