A Ghanaian court has sentenced the leader of a group called Kanawu, Mohammed Ibrahim, to 10 years in prison. Ibrahim was found guilty of threatening the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey.

The court's decision was based on a video Ibrahim published on social media, in which he made false allegations against the Ghana Police Service and the government. He claimed that the police were recruiting fake officers to harm citizens during the upcoming elections. The court deemed the video capable of causing fear and alarm to the public.

Ibrahim was also found guilty of threatening to harm the Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey. In the same video, he claimed that he and his associates knew the Minister's residence and threatened to shoot him if violence erupted. The court convicted Ibrahim under Section 74 of the Criminal Offences Act for these threats.

In addition to the threats, Ibrahim was also convicted of offensive conduct under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act. He was found guilty of using threatening, abusive, and insulting language against IGP Dampare during a public gathering, comments that were later shared widely on social media.

The total sentence of 10 years is to be served consecutively, meaning that Ibrahim will have to complete each sentence before beginning the next. The court's decision serves as a warning to individuals who engage in threatening or inflammatory behavior, particularly during sensitive periods such as elections.
