President Nana Akufo-Addo's decision to unveil a statue of himself at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi has sparked intense debate among Ghanaians. The statue, meant to commemorate his contributions to the region's healthcare infrastructure, has received mixed reactions on social media .

Some people see it as a fitting tribute to the president's efforts, which include rehabilitating the hospital, constructing a three-tier Sinohydro interchange, and redeveloping the Takoradi Market Circle . However, others are questioning the timing and necessity of the statue, especially since some of these projects are still incomplete.

Reactions range from admiration to disappointment, with comments like "Let's be ready to celebrate Akuffo Addo's day" and "Thank you Nana Addo, Ghana will never forget your contribution to the country" . On the other hand, some are criticizing the move, saying "The money wasted in producing this statue could be used to pay Zoomlion workers" and "Please, the statue there is not good for the patient's health, it can increase blood pressure... It should be removed or covered ASAP" .

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, defends the statue as a symbol of appreciation for the president's contributions to the region's healthcare . Nevertheless, the controversy surrounding the statue highlights the complexities of public opinion and the challenges of balancing recognition with practical needs.
