The NPP's running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (commonly known as NAPO), spark controversy during his recent visit to Yaa Naa Bukali Mahama II, Overlord of Dagbon, in Yendi, according to a viral video posted by verified blogger EDHUB on X (previously Twitter).

NAPO brazenly told the crowd that voting for the NDC is "haram" (forbidden in Islam) for Muslims. Furthermore, he asserted that it is forbidden for an Imam to offer prayers for the reinstatement of former President John Mahama.

Ghanaians have responded strongly to this statement, with many social media users and political experts offering their opinions. Such statements, especially from a prominent official of NAPO rank, are seen improper by many.

According to a number of internet comments, NAPO ought to be more circumspect in his speech, especially when speaking in front of various crowds.

A worried user warned that NAPO's strategy may harm the party's reputation with voters, pointing out that such divisive language might force the NPP into opposition. Similar sentiments were expressed by other internet users, who urged political leaders to foster togetherness rather than widen political or religious gaps. Since then, the video has received a lot of attention, with Ghanaians demanding that political conversation be conducted with greater deference. As Ghana prepares for another election season, the people is still expressing their thoughts on whether or not remarks like NAPOs should be allowed in Ghanaian politics.
