A market woman has asked dancehall musician Shatta Wale for help after losing all she owns in the horrific fire that destroyed the Kantamanto Market on January 2, 2025.

In a widely distributed video, the woman cried as she begged for financial assistance, expressing her adoration for the artist and referring to him as her son.

The fire started at 1 a.m., quickly consuming the market and leaving hundreds of traders without their wares. According to reports, the market was almost entirely demolished. Kantamanto Market is an important source of income for many traders, and the fire has displaced numerous people.

The Ghana National incident Service responded to the incident with five trucks from Makola, Greater Accra, National Headquarters, Flagstaff House, and Parliament House. To aid in firefighting efforts, the Electricity Company of Ghana turned off power to the area. Later, three more fire trucks from Circle, Trade Fair, and Dansoman joined the operation, increasing the total to eight. After an hour, the number of trucks had risen to 13, as firemen fought tirelessly to confine the fire.

The origin of the fire and the scope of the damage have yet to be determined. Meanwhile, several market ladies have made bold statements, and many conspiracy theories have emerged surrounding the occurrence.
