Rumors are indeed swirling that Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent Ghanaian politician, is eyeing the presidency in 2028. Although he hasn't confirmed or denied these rumors, his recent actions and statements suggest that he might be considering a run for the highest office.
As a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Agyapong has built a reputation as a fierce critic of corruption and a champion of accountability. His populist stance and straight-talking style have endeared him to many Ghanaians, particularly the youth ¹.
If Agyapong were to run for president, it could significantly alter the 2028 presidential landscape. His entry could potentially split the NPP vote, creating an opening for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) or other third-party candidates.
However, Agyapong's candidacy would also come with its own set of challenges. His outspoken nature has sometimes landed him in controversy, and his critics accuse him of being divisive and polarizing.
It's worth noting that Agyapong has previously declared his intention to contest the NPP flagbearer position in 2024, but lost to Mahamudu Bawumia ¹. As the 2028 presidential election draws near, Ghanaians will be watching Agyapong's next moves closely. Will he confirm his presidential ambitions, or will he remain a kingmaker behind the scenes?
