Dancer Lisa Naa Quama Darko, often known as Lisa Quama, has given an explanation for her decision to pursue dancing despite the fact that her parents are well-off enough to support her.

In a Joy Prime's Changes show interview, she stated that she had personal goals and did not want to rely entirely on her parents for assistance. She also stated that she wanted to work and make money on her own to avoid being a "spoiled child."

She told Roselyn Felli, "I really loved to dance and didn't want to be punished; my parents worked for their money so I didn't want to be that spoilt child."

She claims that because dance was not as respected at the time, money was not her first goal.

She did, however, much rather play for free at occasions with her coworkers.

She was passionate about it and, despite her academic success, did not annoy her parents with her dancing abilities. She therefore worked hard to do well on all of her exams in order to please her parents.

"I was more of a con artist. Ignore my folks. We're alright, really. I was clever at school, so I didn't want to disturb them with this dancing thing. They recognized that since I was earning high grades and could perform the dance for myself, I could pursue my interests and do anything I pleased.

The dancer developed and enhanced her dexterity by saving her school "chop money" to pay for dancing classes during the summer.

When her activities began to bring in money, she was also resolved to use the savings to purchase her mother a car.

She sacrificed by always dressing in the same clothes in an attempt to convince her parents of her value, which she ultimately succeeded in doing even though her mother was a vehicle owner.

"I used to save a lot of money and didn't think about myself." I joked that I would use this money to get my mother a car. I would so set aside money for my savings account, my automobile, and my tithe whenever I received it.
