: Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor, has made a surprising endorsement of John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), over Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Amidu believes Mahama is better equipped to address Ghana's challenges after the tenure of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia.

Amidu argues that Mahama has the experience and independence necessary to audit and rectify the "economic mess" allegedly created by the current administration. He dismisses Dr. Bawumia as incapable of leading such a transformation, describing him as "a clone and poodle of the incumbent President."

Interestingly, Amidu had previously endorsed Dr. Bawumia as the best candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries ¹. However, his latest statement suggests a change of heart, with Amidu now backing Mahama as the best bet for Ghana's future.

Amidu's endorsement of Mahama is likely to have significant implications for the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections. As a former Special Prosecutor, Amidu's opinion carries significant weight, and his endorsement may sway undecided voters to support Mahama.
