The Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MoMAG) is urging President-elect John Mahama to abolish the E-Levy as soon as possible, ideally within his first three months in office. According to MoMAG, the E-Levy has been a significant burden on mobile money agents, users, and the general public .
MoMAG's National Secretary, Amoako Atta Kingsley, emphasized that they're looking forward to collaborating with Mahama's administration to promote the interests of Ghana's mobile money industry. Kingsley noted that Mahama had promised to scrap the E-Levy within his first 120 days in office during his campaign, and they expect him to deliver on this promise .
Mahama had indeed pledged to abolish the E-Levy, along with other taxes, to ease the tax burden on businesses and households. He also promised to simplify the VAT and streamline its collection . With MoMAG's call to action, it's clear that the expectation is high for Mahama to deliver on his promises and create a more favorable environment for businesses and individuals in Ghana.
