A group of youth, believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), vandalized the Bono Regional Forestry Commission offices on Monday, December 9. Armed with machetes, they seized two patrol vehicles, confiscated chainsaw machines, motorbikes, and other items, causing significant disruption and property loss.

This incident occurred despite President-elect John Dramani Mahama's call for NDC supporters to refrain from vandalizing state property. In his acceptance speech on December 9, Mahama urged party supporters to channel their energy into positive and constructive efforts to rebuild the nation.

Similar incidents of vandalism have been reported elsewhere, including at the Forestry Commission depot in Achimota, Accra, where unidentified individuals stole valuable items, including 24 air conditioners, laptops, and other essential equipment.

The Bono Regional Forestry Commission has been active in combating illegal logging, having impounded 21 trucks of stolen wood in September 2023 . The commission's efforts to protect the region's forest reserves are crucial, and such incidents of vandalism can hinder their progress.
