The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly opposed the swearing-in of three New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members-elect to Parliament, claiming legal and procedural flaws. The MPs-elect in question are Patrick Yaw Boamah of Okaikwei Central, Charles Forson of Tema Central, and Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah of Techiman South.
The dispute derives from the re-collection of results in these constituencies, which the NDC argues is illegal. The re-collation was ordered after the Supreme Court overturned an earlier one, as directed by the High Court. The NPP has filed a mandamus application, claiming that the earlier declarations favoring the NDC were unconstitutional.
The NDC's legal team, led by Justice Srem Sai, has challenged the legitimacy of the re-collection process. In an interview, Sai claimed that the process leading up to the declaration of these MPs-elect was riddled with legal and procedural problems. The NDC requires that these concerns be handled before the swearing-in, escalating the political tension around these contested seats.
