The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that investigating vote-buying allegations falls outside its mandate. According to Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the EC's Director in Charge of Training, such matters are the responsibility of security agencies like the police and the Office of the Special Prosecutor .

This stance is not unique to Ghana, as electoral fraud and manipulation can take many forms worldwide. These include voter intimidation, disinformation, and coercion, which can all impact the outcome of an election .

In Ghana's case, the EC's role is limited to providing facilities for voting and ensuring the process runs smoothly. If instances of vote-buying or other irregularities are noticed, the EC can intervene to halt such activities, but determining criminality is beyond their purview .
