Residents of Accra's Ablekuma Central Constituency were shocked when three missing youngsters were discovered trapped inside a church, according to a report published by JoyNews on Sunday.
A bystander heard the children sobbing within the church building and found them after they had been missing for two days.
Afia Owusu (3), Kwame Tetteh (2), and Kojo Asamoah (4) were reported missing on Friday night when kids did not come home from their outside play.
Despite searching the entire area with the assistance of neighbors, their anxious parents were unable to locate them. After the authorities were notified of the situation, a search was initiated.
"I had trouble sleeping the entire night. "I knew something was wrong because my son Kojo never goes very far," Kojo's mother, Madam Yaa Asamoah, said.
A bystander strolling by the nearby small church, Faith Revival Church, on Sunday morning heard muffled cries emanating from within.
He notified everyone in the vicinity, who promptly gathered outside the church out of curiosity.
They were startled to see the three kids sitting on the floor, clearly scared and feeble, when they looked through a window.
"I couldn't believe what I saw. How did these children enter a church that was locked? stated one of the residents, Kwame Mensah.
Officers came to bust down the church door after the police were contacted right away. The kids were discovered sobbing and hungry, but they were uninjured.
How the kids got into the locked church is now the main mystery.
After prayers on Friday night, the church officials who were called to the scene said they had closed the building and had no idea anyone was inside.
"This is really odd. Pastor John Agyapong stated, "We don't know how they got in, and we locked the church ourselves."
To ascertain if the youngsters were carried there on purpose or if they strayed inside before the church was locked, the police have opened an investigation.
The three youngsters were given food and medical care before being reunited with their parents, who were overcome with emotion.
"I'm grateful that my child is still alive. However, we require answers. Who was responsible for this? Afia's mother, Mariam Owusu, sobbed.
Residents have been asked by authorities to exercise additional caution and report any unusual activity that might jeopardize the safety of children.
The inquiry is still under progress.
