Koku Anyidoho, the former Deputy General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been quite vocal about his disapproval of building an airport in the Volta Region. He believes it's a complete waste of Ghana's scarce resources and has reiterated this stance, stating that time has vindicated him since the airport has turned out to be virtually a white elephant ¹.
Interestingly, John Dramani Mahama, the former President of Ghana, has a differing opinion. In January 2024, he justified the construction of the airport, citing its potential to boost tourism and serve as a hub for aviation studies, which could ultimately benefit the Volta Region's economy. Mahama disagreed with the notion that the airport is a white elephant and even promised to make it effective if he's given another chance to lead ¹.
It's clear that there's a divide between Anyidoho and Mahama on this issue. Anyidoho's concerns about the airport's viability and resource allocation are valid, but Mahama sees potential in its tourism and economic benefits. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the airport is a worthwhile investment or a waste of resources?
